A one-day field trip to examone young lave flows, lava tubes, and cinder cones
in the Zuni-Bandera volcanic field in west-central New Mexico prepares
students for later field exercises in which the flow stratigraphy, flow
directions, and cooling features of Tertiary basalt and andesite flows must
be deduced.
